“This is my husband and my second time staying at the Cook Camp. Our first time was back during the week of October 24th, 2020 for our honeymoon with our dog. We had such a marvelous time back then, hiking, snuggling up by the fire, drinking wine on the daybed of the front porch, and exploring Mirror Lake and Lake Placid. We just knew we needed to come back, but this time we wanted to check out the summer season. Well we finally made it back for August 2023, but this time we brought family! We had three kids with us under the age of 3 and we made out just fine in the cabin. Ill admit, we were a bit concerned with the AC in the cabin, but it turns out you really dont need it! We opened up our windows during the day to allow the breeze in the house and at night the temps would be around 50-60 degrees, so it was absolutely perfect. We spent some time in the water off the dock. There is a small sandy beach and the bottom of the lake off the dock is sandy too. The kids absolutely loved the little sandy beach area. We also took a little tour around the lake in the new pontoon boat. The boat is absolutely gorgeous and super comfortable. We spent some night fishing off the dock and caught some perch and bass. We also took the kayaks out a couple times too. The cabin itself was very comfortable and had everything you could possibly need, including a fully stocked kitchen which had pots, pans, cooking utensils, loads of silverware, glassware, bowls, coffee maker, literally anything you need. They also have a good amount of spices too. We spent many meals outside on the screened in porch at the massive table. If I had any complaint at all, and its small, its that the cabin is not insulated, so you really do hear everything between rooms, which made it a little difficult for sleeping children, but it was really no big deal and very minuscule in the grand scheme of things. My husband and I also took the opportunity to take a small hike right off the house. The forest truly is beautiful and peaceful. Im addition, although the neighbors are close by, the house is still very private and its so quiet, especially since there is no road access, so no noise from cars zooming by. The Cook Camp certainly holds a special place in our hearts. It truly is a magical place, in all seasons it seems. My husband and I are already trying to plan our next trip. If you are looking to book the Cook Camp, I promise if you do, you wont be disappointed. ”

“What a perfect spot to spend a relaxing family vacation at the lake. The property is really nicely maintained. The cabin was great and spacious, and offered the right combination of rustic but with all the right modern amenities. The screened-in porch was a huge favorite and was where every meal was eaten. The waterfront and dock are in really great condition and we spent countless hours down there swimming, kayaking, or just reading a book. And of course, the village of Lake Placid is charming and we enjoyed a few dinners in town during our week. Pontoon is new and easy to handle. All in all, we highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for relaxing week at the lake.”

“We have been vacationing at the Camp over a span of 20+ years. It is there we have built lasting family memories. This is a very unique type of vacation that few people have experienced. While I have traveled to many other places in the world this truly is my favorite. We plan on spending more time each summer up at the Camp.”

Owner's Response

“Thanks Chris, we are thrilled to have you back each summer!”

“Cook Camp has turned into our annual family trip where two families plus a grandma (4 adults 5 children and a senior = 10 people) can spend a great week away from everything. Boat access only so very quiet, but near to town for groceries, the item you need but forgot and lots of recreational opportunities if you need a break from lounging by the lake. The owner makes continual investments in the property. It just keeps getting better. I highly recommend Cook Camp, but lease don't take our week!”

Owner's Response

“Thanks so much Matt. We look forward to having you and your family back next summer!”

“I've booked the Cook Camp on lake placid for 3 family vacations and 1 work retreat. I love the place. Its secluded and quiet but also close to Lake Placid for lots of activities and ease of picking up necessities. The house is bigger and more comfortable than the photos suggest. The owner and caretakers are responsive. We were particularly impressed this year with the attention and care put into lots of upgrades that made a great stay even better.”

Owner's Response

“Thanks Matt, we love having you stay at our house!”

“My boyfriend and I rented this property for a summer vacation with all of our children. From the moment we arrived we were so happy we found this property. The House was a perfect set up for us, plenty of room for everyone and exceeded our expectations from the pictures. The property right in front of the house was perfect for the boys wiffle ball games and various other sports. Being right on the lake is so special and boat access only made it even better, truly a special and peaceful experience to just be in the beauty of the lake and mountains, no cars, roads, ect. That said, it was an easy and fun boat ride to the marina to get into town. We loved our week at Camp Cook and will definitely look to rent again next summer. ”

“Our first trip to Lake Placid and despite colder than normal temperatures we had a wonderful time. This little cabin in the woods offers you everything. Access to the water, access to trails for hiking, and a chance to get away from all your cares in the world. This cabin is certainly a rare find. We will be booking it again next year!”

“We loved being at Cook Camp. The pictures actually do not do the camp justice. The interior remodel is fresh and just the right blend of rustic with modern conveniences, clean and comfortable. We loved the large kitchen and kitchen table but ate all our meals together at the big table on the screened in porch. Also loved the lean-to campfire overlooking the lake. Great waterfront for swimming and lots of toys to enjoy the lake. We were blown away how quite the location is and how easy it is to get to lots of fun lake placid activities. You can be as active or restful as you want to me. We can't wait to go back.”

“We have stayed at this property in the past and have always very much enjoyed each visit. This property is only accessible by boat, which we like, and truthfully the sunset boat rides are the most anticipated part of the day. The master bedroom and bath are newer to the property and are very well done. All bedrooms are nice and comfortable. The kitchen is roomy and has all the amenities you could want. A fire pit and log shelter with a nice lake view has been added since our last visit and this is where we spent most evenings after our boat ride around the lake. The entire Lake Placid area is beautiful and this is a nice property to stay at while you enjoy it. We highly recommend it.”

“This was our third family vacation spent at Camp Cook. A great camp for the grandkids. Camp Cook is clean, neat and well equipped. New fire pit and shelter are a real plus. The pontoon boat gets a lot of use between trips into town and evening cruises around the lake. Hope we can return again in the future.”

“Our second trip to Camp Cook. A very nice, well-equipped, up-to-date, clean and comfortable camp. The grandkids loved the kayaks. The pontoon boat is a real plus. Nice 15 minute ride into the marina and town. Has a great fire pit but the rental contract doesn't allow its use! Neighboring camps are close but not at all intrusive. ”

Owner's Response

“We are adding a new lean-to with a fire pit this summer and will be updating the contract (the old fire pit was too close to the house for our insurance company to allow its use by renters). We'll also have a wood shed full of wood.”

“Our family vacation at this camp included 11 people. We had a fantastic week. The pontoon boat was great, large enough to accommodate our group. The camp is beautifully set up,& more spacious than it appears in the pictures. The setting is ideal. The swim trampoline was a blast & we enjoyed using the kayaks. This was our first time on Lake Placid & first experience with a boat access only camp. The owner is very responsive and was a pleasure to work with. This rental is a gem !”

“Wonderful camp for a large family or several couples. Great view and a short, gentle walk from the camp to the dock. Quite secluded but easy access to Lake Placid Village using the pontoon boa t. A very nice pontoon boat big enough for the whole crowd.. Hope to return in future years. Only negative is the extra fee required for guests in excess of six since the camp sleeps 11.”

Owner's Response

“We are glad you enjoyed your stay!”

“If you're trying to decide whether, or not to rent this cottage for your vacation, stop debating and do it as you'll be in love with the house and the location.I was looking to book a last minute vacation, which is difficult for me to do as I have 3 German Shepherds that travel with me and not a lot of rentals allow pets of this size a quantity, but the owner was gracious enough to allow us to rent the cottage. This was one of the most beautiful settings I have even been to. The cottage sits back from a sandy beach that's perfect for swimming. The landscaping is well maintained and colorful. The cottage itself is up to date and very cozy, yet large enough for several couples. The rental comes with a house boat, which is perfect for motoring around Lake Placid. A canoe, row boat, and sailboat are also included, which are great for exploring the shorelines of the lake. The cottage was spotless and a well stocked kitchen makes it easy to make all of your meals in house and not have to go back to the mainland for anything. The master bedroom and bath are stunning. There is plenty to do indoors to relax, and plenty of things and places to go outdoors to keep you busy. The Cook Cottage is an amazing experience. I cannot wait to go back. ”

“We had a great stay at this place in Lake Placid. It was a first for us in that the house is only accessible by boat, hence the need for the pontoon boat. The Adirondacks at this time of year are truly beautiful. We were there w/ one other couple but the house can accomodate several more people. It's about a 15 minute boat ride across the lake but the ride itself is relaxing. The house is an older one that has been updated through the years. The recently renovated kitchen and master bedroom/bath are very nice. All the amenities you could want are right there. It was a very relaxing stay and we enjoyed a boat ride around the lake each evening. Truthfully, if your just looking to unwind and relax, you may decide to just stay at the house. There's not a lot of reasons to go anywhere else. Just make sure you bring enough groceries. It's not like you can just jump in the car and run to the Jiffy Store for a loaf of bread! All in all, we had a great time and would definitely go back again.”
