Critics Consensus

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead has some fun with the original film's still-sturdy premise, but it's hard not to wonder whether a remake was really necessary.

It’s the focus on character work that lets this one sing, and it should make a star out of Jones, who, like her character, manages to hold it all together. This unnecessary remake of the 1991 film is in many ways worse than the original film because the remake adds terrible racial jokes and more moronic scenarios. Everything interesting about it is stolen from a better movie while its new ideas are devoid of creativity or entertainment. Rated: 1.5/5 Apr 16, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/13/24 Full Review JONATHAN L Nope ..... just nope ......end of discussion the original all the way.... The only likable character in this movie is the crazy babysitter. And that says a lot. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review deskby t I liked it. I Loved the original and its one of my favorites. This new one is really good. The actors and acting was on point and the story was done very well. I liked that they left some of the original parts in but they changed a few. That was also done well BUT whoever edited it put the soundtrack WAY too loud over the speaking parts making it hard to hear and follow the story line. It was like they wanted you to hear the music,(which was also good), more than they wanted you to hear the dialog. I mean really? I had to put on the subtitles just to know what they were saying. Sometimes it would be so loud I thought " did they do this on purpose?" Other than that I REALLY liked the remake and I LOVED THE CAMEO BY THE ORIGINAL ROSE!! Great job!Would have given it 4 1/2 or 5 stars if I could've heard them speaking over the music. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
